The former Minister of Reconciliation and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs, Philip Ruddock, today launched a new website featuring the works of Albert Namatjira. Mr Ruddock was joined at the launch at the Melbourne Museum by ATSIC Chairman, Geoff Clark, and artist Sir William Dargie, a close friend and painting companion of the late Mr Namatjira.

School students can now learn more about our vital democratic heritage through the study of Australian art, according to the former Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs, Dr David Kemp.
Dr Kemp was in Ballarat, Victoria, to launch Artists of the Goldfields, which features the work of Eugene von Guerard and David Davies on the website In the Artist's Footsteps.

Tom Roberts' famous painting of the opening of the first Australian parliament, "Opening of the first Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia by HRH the Duke of Cornwall and York, May 9 1901", often known as "The Big Picture", will carry the story of Australia's democracy to thousands of schoolchildren around the country via the Internet.

The painting features on an electronic greeting card as part of a new website, "In the Artist's Footsteps", launched by the Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs at Parliament House today, the 145th anniversary of Tom Roberts' birth. The launch was attended by Tom Roberts' grandson, Mr Peter Roberts.

Former Minister launches The Women of the Heidelberg School

The former Minister for Women's Affairs, Ms Sherryl Garbutt, today launched the beginning of a week of activities around International Women's Day on March 8, with the launch of a women artists' website.

The website opens the door on the lives of five Victorian women artists of the turn-of-the-century Heidelberg School. The artists were: Clara Southern, Jane Price, Jane Sutherland, May Vale and Elizabeth Parsons.
